S K Y P O R E S a New Skin For New York

City developed under a membrane system with a texture like the skin of the human body, which breathes through openings such as pores and help to bring the essence of heaven into earth. For this system to work, it was needed to design a specific type of ¨ root ¨ or spinal bone that creates a structure to support this architectural metabolism. In this case the vertical cone-structures are responsible of performing this task.  The Project exceeds its own purpose, rather than a city; it becomes an impulse, inertia, stubbornness. Membranes by themselves play a role but together create a superior result, a transitory paradise full of life that breathes itself. It is, after all, SKYPORES.

This new architectural organism was generated under the principles of the skin-tissue structure:

SUBCUTANEOUS MEMBRANE:
Protective membrane of the ¨ruins ¨ of the ancient city of New York. Its purpose is to attach the new skin and its different layers to the “bone” or main surface that in this case is the existent city. This attachment can be made through “connective tissues” like the vertical cone-structures which are the main providers of natural resources for the correct function of the skin system.

DERMIS MEMBRANE:
This skin-layer stays in between the other two membranes of the system. Different natural prolongations of the skin structure take place in these spaces so that the architecture expands its limits in order to generate a sequence of public and private spaces.

EPIDERMIS MEMBRANE:

Membrane with lower density and constant exposure to climatic agents. Its main function is to create a weatherproof barrier that can also protect the system against infections and epidemic outbreaks. This layer is also important because it can regulate the “skin” temperature so that different bioclimatic environments can be created.
